Burkina Faso is a landlocked country in the western part of the African continent. The borders of the country include Mali, Niger, Benin, Togo, Ghana and the Ivory Coast. In the past, the country was a colony of France, and in 1960 takes name of the Upper Voltaafter its freedom. The capital is Ouagadougou. The area of the country is 274,200 km2.

Economy
The economy of Burkina Faso is based on food crop farming and animal husbandry. Cattle, goats, sheep and chickens are the main animals grown. Akdarı, sorghum, beans, Indian locales, cassava, corn, peanuts, cotton, sesame and West African trees are the most important plants extracted from the seed. Cotton, peanut and sesame are exported. Livestock and animal skins constitute an important part of export revenues. Industry, soap, vegetable oils, sugar, cotton and leather products constitute the majority of manufacturing. Most electrical energy is produced thermally. The money sent by workers working outside is an important source of foreign exchange.
