The Cocos Islands, or Keyling Islands, is a group of islands in the Indian Ocean in Southeast Asia that are connected to Australia. The population of the Cocos Islands was 617 in July 1997. In 1984, the public voted to join Australia. Area; 14 km². The Capital; It's West Island.
These islands consist of two atotherms (Northern Keeling Island and South Keeling Islands) and 27 coral islands, but only two inhabitants. West Island is the capital of the island and the airport; Home Island is also home to a largely inhabited Cocos Malay population. The current population of the Cocos (Keeling) Islands is around 600 people. 80% of the residents believe in Sunni Islam, and the two spoken languages include the Cocos Malay dialect and English.
Malay name for Keeling Islands is Stamp Cocos (Keeling). There are signs in this language in Home and West Islands, including Malay translations. Together with the Christmas Island, Australia forms the Indian Ocean Territory. Although Western Australia offers public services to the islands, it is made up of the Lingiari division of the Northern Territory, a member of the House of Representatives.
