Lebanon's Economy
It is one of the most economically developed countries of the Middle East. The Lebanese economy is dominated by private enterprise and the country is implementing the liberal economic system.
Most of the people are engaged in agriculture, however, 35% of the national product is trade and 13% is production. The Lebanese economy has developed especially after 1950. The free market has made Lebanon the commercial and financial center of the Arab Middle East. National income per capita is $ 884. It is mostly related to import and export relations with Italy, France, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan and Syria.
The main food crop (Creal) is wheat, barley, banana, grape, sugarcane, olives, potatoes, cotton and various vegetables and fruits. Agricultural products are the main export materials, as well as woolen goods, leather and cement. On the other hand, industrial raw materials, machinery, animal and animal products are imported from abroad. Food, sugar, textile, cement and petroleum industries are available. Two major oil pipelines end in Lebanon. That's why Lebanon provides huge profits from oil and transit transportation.
Apart from these, furniture and paper industries are very important. Lebanon obtains the most revenue from transit transportation. Beirut is one of the most important commercial and financial centers in the World
It is a trade and banking center in normal circuits as well as the distribution gate of the Arab Middle East. Two thirds of transit transport passes through Beirut, including air transportation. But these characteristics are shaken by civil wars.
Other important sources of income for Lebanon are jewelery sales and tourism. Most of the electricity needs are provided from the Karun Dam on the Litani River.
