Liechtenstein's Economy
Liechtenstein was an agricultural country for a long time. However, after the Second World War, the country developed rapidly and became a modern country and a country of services. Metal industry products, dental materials, electronic goods and food products are mostly exported to Switzerland. However, it is also sent to countries outside Europe such as the European Economic Area (EWR) and especially the US and Far East countries.
After 1950, Liechtenstein underwent significant changes in both agriculture and industry. The traditional agriculture, which combined forestry with various agriculture in the Alluvial Rhine plain, has increasingly turned to milking cows with the influence of Switzerland. Accordingly, the agriculturally engaged population clearly reversed against the industrial sector (50% in 1950, 4% in 1992). In Liechtenstein, there are many activities that can be considered to be the most industrialized country of Europe compared to its surface area and production: the construction of sensitive devices; nutrient and weaving industries; etc. Liechtenstein's trade balance is surpassed by additional resources, such as income from taxes on tourism, postage stamps, and taxation from a large number of foreign companies that have settled in the principality due to a favorable tax system.
