Saint-Paul and Nouvelle Amsterdam islands in the south of the Indian Ocean, Kerguelen, Crozet, the islands of the Indian Ocean (Juan De Nova, Glorioso, Bassas da India, Europa and Tromelin islands) and the Adelie Land in Antarctica forms the country that consists of five different parts. Until 1955, these lands which were connected to Madagascar were converted into a special French territory after this date. The territory, which is connected to a high-level administrator who lives in Paris until 2004, is currently managed by the island of Reunion. Total surface area is 7819 km² except for Adelie Land. Madagascar, Bassas also claims to be based on the islands of India, Europa, Glorioso and Juan de Nova.
The implementation of the Antarctic Treaty, which France signed, places Adélie Land in a special situation. French sovereignty, which is not recognized by other nations, is used in a limited manner and in accordance with the Treaty.
According to the law of 2007, a fifth zone was added to the TAAF, which was tropical, before the previously applied Displaced Islands (Tromelin Island, Europa Island, Bassas da India Atoll, Sanli Islands, Juan de Nova Island). Reunion Island (although these islands are not part of this overseas division).
